This course is an introduction to the natural resources of the tropics concentrating on ecology, conservation and the importance of ecotourism in the economies of countries such as Belize. While in Belize, students will enhance their knowledge through scientific investigations, guided hikes, cultural studies and a service learning component. Highlights of the course include; planning and implementing STEM related activities in a local school, exploration and scientific discovery in unique habitats (coral reef, mangrove, rainforest), as well as visits to cultural sites including the ancient Maya cities Cahal Pech and Xunantunich.
